Crying shame: mental illness and stigma

Mental illness is still shrouded in stigma, fear and ignorance according to this report.  This research reveals that a shocking 72% of adults in the United Kingdom think that there is a stigma associated with having a mental illness and describe people with a mental illness as unpredictable (79%), dangerous (50%) and scary (49%). Less than half (45%) of the adult population think that people with long-term mental illnesses are able to lead independent, fulfilled lives. Read the report here.

Smokefree England – one month on

August 23, 2007

Data published by the Department of Health has revealed 97 per cent of premises inspected in the two weeks after England went smokefree on 1 July were found to be compliant with the new law.  So far, data has been collected from 88,899 inspections, which includes 1,090 hotels, 6,783 restaurants and 9,568 licensed premises.
