The February issue of ontheweb, the NFER’s free monthly current awareness service for educational research-related websites is now available. It now includes a subject index to make it easier to find what you want.

The February issue of nferdirect containing all the latest news and events, projects and publications from NFER is also available.

Teacher Assessment Activities for Foundation Subjects

Sample activities from the QCA Teacher assessment activities series for Key Stages 1 and 2 are available online. The QCA has recently developed new materials and the series now covers: art and design, design and technology, geography, history, and ICT.

Designed to support existing classroom practice and assessment methods, these materials provide examples of assessment activities to help identify, track and enhance pupil progress.

There is a book of activities for each subject at each key stage, including concise teacher guidance that explains the structure of the materials and how to use them. The materials are fully integrated with the national curriculum programmes of study and with the formative assessment agenda.

Health Guide

Looking for something? Take a peek at the Health Guide, written by Andy Farrington of the University of Derby. The site contains loads of useful links to health topics like nursing, counselling and psychotherapy, mental health, politics and government, social services and the all important library. Well maintained and easy to use.

Royal College of Nursing Policy Unit

The RCN has revamped its policy section and now includes policy statements, briefings and a discussion zone where members can have input on policy decisions.

The Green Book

The new edition of The Green Book: immunisation against infectious diseases is available online. This edition focuses on vaccines and vaccine procedures.

Clinical Skills Online

Oooh nice. Lots of handy videos of clinical skills techniques from the HE Academy and St George’s in London. Take a look at Clinical Skills Online for nurses and other health care professionals, including catheterisation, blood sampling and various examination techniques. Runs on Windows Media Player which is readily available. Makes a change from just reading about how to do things!

Do you find it difficult to keep track of new Education documents published by organisations such as the DfES, QCA, and Ofsted? To help you, a list of new key documents will be published monthly here on “Update” with links to the full text. Click on “Read the rest of this entry” for links to documents published in January and February 2007.

The Document Summary Service at the University of Bristol produces useful convenient summaries of all these documents. The summaries can be found in the Reports section of the Reference area on the first floor of the Library shelved at 370.942 DOC

Watch this space for online versions of the summaries. As we subscribe to the service these will be available only to University of Worcester students and staff.

Diabetes- three useful things

Diabetes stories: personal tales of diabetes through the ages. Interesting peek into the history of diabetes treatment from the patients’ perspective. Audio recordings of 50 people with diabetes from 1927 to 1997. A great insight into day to day life with the condition and changes in treatment and management over time.

Diabetes state of the nations 2006: Reports on the progress made in delivering National Service Frameworks with an overview of diabetes services across the UK. Looks at identification, support, children’s diabetes, screening and treatment.

Beyond boundaries: a guide to diabetes networks. Looks at the contribution clinical networks can make to the treatment of diabetes, including practical examples of setting up and maintaining efficient networks.

National Electronic Library for Infection (NeLI)

 

Take a look at the National Electronic Library for Infection, a digital library of evidence based materials. From acne to vaccines, sections include clinical presentation, organisms, diseases and systems as well as the latest news, conferences, guidelines and factsheets.
