We’re coming up to Christmas, so it must be time for looking back and taking stock. Lo! and Behold! that’s just what the NHS and the Health Commission have done. Take a look atthe following reports on the state of healthcare in the UK:
Review of Children’s Services: from the Healthcare Commission, the first in a series of four reviews of different aspects of healthcare. Assesses services in relation to the National Service Framework for Children and Young People’s Services.
Annual Health Check 2006/2007: again from the Healthcare Commission, this report assesses and rates the NHS across standards of safety, patient focus and clinical effectiveness.
State of Healthcare 2006: the Healthcare Commission’s report to parliament on “the provision of healthcare by or for NHS bodies”
NHS Reference Costs 2005/2006: details of what the NHS spends their money on, from the Department of Health.
And finally, looking to the future:
NHS Operating Framework for 2007/2008: health service priorities, key reforms and financial objectives for the year ahead, from the Department of Health.

Need to know about pre-hospital and emergency care? Then these are the sites for you:
Ambulance Services: from the Information Centre, statistics about NHS ambulance services in England 2005-6. Over 6 million emergency calls for ambulances are made each year- good work people!
British Association for Immediate Care (BASICS): the charity that co-ordinates schemes and individuals involved in immediate care across the UK. Contains sections for nurses and paramedics.
Emergency Medicine Journal: Don’t forget that the leading international journal for emergency medicine is available online. The most recent issue and everything over a year old is free, going back to 2000.
