As we know, shock horror, not everything you find via Google is reliable. Plus there is an awful lot of it to wade through. If you are searching for health information take a look at this new search engine: Healia. Easy to use, focused on health and best of all, you can narrow down what you find. Just search for the keywords you’re after and a list of options will appear on the left allowing you to restrict your results by gender, age group etc. It is a little too American biased for my liking, and if I’m really after ‘quality’ information I’d be more likely to use Intute: Health and Life Sciences, but certainly worth keeping an eye on.

A new edition of the “Internet for Social Statistics” online tutorial has been released in the Intute: Virtual Training Suite.
‘It is ideal for use in higher education courses, particularly in social science or research methods courses. The tutorial recommends key Internet resources for social statistics; offers advice on Internet searching and website evaluation; and has a new section called “Success Stories” to illustrate how the Internet can be used to support education and research in a variety of scenarios.’
