The clickable diagram leads you to information about funding, structure, services and how this all relates to patients and the public. There is also a history of the NHS, information about star ratings, waiting times and National Service Frameworks.

Film and Sound Online is the successor to Education Media Online (EMOL).
‘Film & Sound Online is a JISC-funded set of collections of film, video and sound material. Several hundred hours of high-quality material are available for download, either in full or as segments, and can be used freely in learning, teaching and research.’
You can access it with your Athens password.

Some useful sites for anyone looking for images or articles about the human body and brain:
Normal anatomy images – a collection on images from the Visible Human Project showing sectional anatomy of the human body. Useful teaching aid.
Brain from top to bottom- articles, animations and more on the brain including emotions, memory, pleasure and pain, from McGill University in Canada.
Atlases of the brain – sections of the human brain, brain stem and spinal cord, from the University of Utah.

The study Research Ethics in Art, Design and Media has published its report. The study was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and took place between September 2005 and July 2006.
The workshop pack can be used in research skills training courses and by individual researchers. It also aims ”to inform and stimulate debate about research ethics in art, design and media”.

The newly created Department for Communities and Local Government (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) have a new website including a large section on housing and related issues. The housing page looks at lots of different areas including sustainable communities, buying and selling, social housing and housing management.
Also of note, the Social Care Institute for Excellence have published a report on the Impact of Environmental Housing Conditions on the Health and Well Being of Children. This includes details of housing conditions- over one million children in the UK live in housing that is sub-standard or unfit to live in.

New for those interested in mental health conditions:
Depression: a summary- from Prodigy, this latest patient information leaflet (PIL) details depression, its causes, symptoms and treatments.
Assessing and diagnosing ADHD- from the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), this research briefing summarises the current state of knowledge about ADHD and links to more in depth materials.
Deliberate self harm among children and adolescents- also from (SCIE) this research briefing examines who is at risk from self harm and how it can be recognised.

We now have access to the online version of the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health. This can be access via the A-Z journals lists or directly via http://www2.us.elsevierhealth.com/inst/serve?db=home&id=midwom. This journal has its own individual password, so please contact ILS if you would like access.
