Obesity is permanently in the news, especially at the moment with the publication of a new obesity map showing levels of obesity for all parts of the UK. So, here are a few useful sites looking at the issues involved:

Weight Concern – “fighting obesity with knowledge”, helping health care professionals and the public work together on obesity

National Obesity Forum – news centre for all issues surrounding obesity

Food Standards Agency – Eat Well: this site gives lots of background information on obesity and many other health issues

Best Treatments- evidence based information on obesity for health care professionals and patients, from the BMJ.

The best way to keep up to date with information about drugs and medications is to visit the British National Formulary (BNF) on-line. This resource is freely available once users have gone through a simple registration process. Also available is the specialist BNF for Children. Much more up to date that print versions and pretty easy to use.

The NHS Health Encyclopaedia has been around for a while, but it is worth bearing mind that it is continually being added to and updated. Well worth a look for reliable background information on any number of health conditions and topics, including their causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatments and prognosis. From A&E to Yellow Fever there are full explanations of many topics, conditions and illnesses. Anyone know of a condition beginning with Z?
