Feeling hungry? Three new resources looking at health, nutrition and education have just been published. These are:

Vegetarian Society Factsheets – a range of educational resources and information services aimed at teachers and students. “Everything from vegetarian alcohol to soya, and cats to sandwiches.”

Phunky Foods – a 39 week rolling programme of healthy eating and physical activity lessons for every year group in primary school.

Food in Schools Programme – a joint venture between the Department of Health and the Department for Education and Skills including a toolkit of activities and projects.

Health and social care statistics

Not the most thrilling of topics, I know, but the Department of Health is aiming to make finding national health and social care statistics a little easier with the launch of the new Information Catalogue for health and social care. With the noble aims of reducing bureaucracy and eliminating duplication, the site offers access to reports and statistics published by national bodies including the Healthcare Commission, the Department of Health, the Social Care Commission and NHS regulators. The site is small as yet, but growing. One to keep your eye on.


Trauma and orthopaedics specialist library

Broken bones

The National Library for Health have launched a new specialist library focusing on trauma and orthopaedics. The library is divided into sections covering all sections of the body and gives you guidance and care pathways, evidence, reference publications, CPD materials and patient information for each area. There are also sections on disease management, journals, textbooks and niformation on relevant professional bodies. Most articles are freely available, although an NHS Athens password may be required for some resources.


Teaching Resources in Business Education (TRIBE)

TRIBE is a pilot project from the Higher Education Academy, identifying teaching and learning resources for academic staff in Business, Management, Accountancy and Finance. Currently there are around 500 educational resources in the database.

Birth to Five is an 'easy-to-use and practical guide for parents', giving advice and information on many aspects of childcare, including development, learning, illness, nutrition, safety and immunisation. Well worth a look. Adobe reader required.


Diabetic feet

The NHS National Diabetes Support Team has published a new Diabetic Foot Guide. The guide aims to be a comprehensive guide to improving foot care for people with diabetes, including screening and prevention, care pathways and multidisciplinary working. Adobe reader required.


IBSS Social Science Competition results

The International Bibliography of Social Sciences (IBSS) has awarded prizes of £300 to undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers for case studies showing how they have used IBSS in their research.

The winning case studies are available via the IBSS homepage.
